AFS Intercultural Programs USA
The AFS mission is to work toward a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership. AFS is a worldwide, nonprofit organization that exchanges more than 13,000 students each year among a partnership of more than 50 AFS partner countries. It was established in 1947 by American Field Service volunteer ambulance drivers of World Wars I and II who believed–as AFS believes today–that the way to build a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries meet, learn about each other, and begin to understand each other.
ASSE International Student Exchange Programs
ASSE was initially founded by the Swedish Parliament in 1938 to facilitate exchanges between Germany and Sweden. ASSE has since evolved and expanded in size and scope. Incorporated in the USA in 1976 as a public benefit, non-profit, high school student exchange program, ASSE maintains a network of over 1200 volunteer representatives in 41 countries in Europe, Asia/Pacific, the Americas, and Africa and accomodates over 10,000 students annually in its various programs.
ASSE’s primary goal is to contribute to international understanding through exchange programs which enable students to learn other languages and about other cultures through active participation in family, school and community life.
Council on International Educational Exchange
CIEE, the Council on International Educational Exchange, is a non-profit, non-govermental organization dedicated to helping people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Established in 1947, CIEE is a world leader in student exchange services. Each year, we help nearly 50,000 high school and university students as well as young professionals and educators to grow personally and to develop their potential through participation in a wide variety of exchange programs across the globe. CIEE staff are highly trained and are devoted to providing the highest level of service to our global partners and program participants.
Youth For Understanding USA
Youth For Understanding (YFU) advances intercultural understanding, life-long learning, global competencies, mutual respect, and social responsibility through transformational educational exchanges for generations of youth, families, and communities, supported by dedicated volunteers and professional staff. As a staff and volunteer-supported network of more than 50 international partners, YFU helps participants broaden their perspectives through immersive experiences that share a culture from the inside out, promoting the understanding that we are all citizens of one world. YFU cultural exchange programs provide the ultimate reality check to a worldview based on stereotypes.
Since 1951, more than 270,000 exchange students, their host families, and 12,000+ worldwide volunteers have benefited from YFU’s study abroad programs. The YFU global network remains united by the belief that full cultural immersion is the most effective means to gain the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected and competitive global society.
