2025-2026 CBYX High School Application Now Open!

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Offers an Academic Year Abroad in Germany.

U.S. Department of State and German Bundestag scholarship program for high school students to study abroad in Germany.

Washington, D.C. – Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) has launched its nationwide application for high school students and recent graduates to study abroad in Germany for the 2025-2026 academic year. 210 high school scholarships are available from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the German Bundestag (Parliament) to fund students for an academic year of study and cultural immersion. Scholarship recipients will gain a new perspective on global and current affairs and German social, economic, and political life, all while learning the German language through language lessons, daily life in the culture, attending a local high school, and living with a host family. Participants serve as “youth ambassadors”  of the U.S. while participating in educational, cultural, and political events, including receptions and meetings with government officials.

Created in 1983 by the Reagan administration, CBYX strengthens U.S. – German relations by forging lasting ties and deeper understanding. Over the past 40 years, the program has reinforced transatlantic bonds between Americans and Germans who engage in the program both as participants and hosts. Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut finds exchange programs like CBYX “are of particular importance in today’s global economy. These programs provide an unequaled understanding of world cultures – one that can translate into the success of American business, growth of the U.S. economy, and increased  global and national security.”

To be considered, applications must be completed and submitted by the deadline of 11:59 PM Pacific on November 1, 2024.

CBYX is implemented by a partnership of non-profit exchange organizations: AFS-USA, CIEE, and YFU-USA.
